I fly quite often lately and I can’t help but wonder about those poor pioneers that risked everything to make it to the wild west by trail.  They suffered unimaginable losses of family members to everything from rattle snakes, indian raids, starvation, disease, bad water, dehydration, infections from wounds, and more.   It only takes about 5 hrs. by plane from my area in Tennessee to Sacramento, California. The planes fly over 550 MPH, it’s so easy for me to go back and forth- what would the pioneers think of that? Have you ever seen the Beverly Hillbillies episode where they fly in a plane?  Hilarious!

I like to read real diaries of the late pioneers and what they found important.  Many of the womens’ diaries make little mention of the birth of another child, but make a huge deal about buying sugar that is finally available, or having plenty of clean water.  It’s so great to have these books available to put some things into perspective when I feel like complaining about the boring, cramped flights I will be taking again in the near future.  Welcome to my weird mind and deep thoughts for the day!  But really, what an interesting subject to think about, I loved the old cemeteries in the west!
